Being an Artist - Why It's Not About the Money
What is an artist, a good artist, a craftsman, and a craftsman?
Artist: is a person who creates products for trading companies. Graphic designers and book illustrators are two examples.
Fine Artist - An inherited talent for creating original, visual and great works of art for aesthetic value. Examples are oil paintings and hand carvings.
Independent artisans from artisans who create beauty and aid projects. Two examples are glassblowers or a carpet manufacturer.
Artisan - Replicates commodities as a trader or artisan. Examples: carpenters build houses and merchants build furniture.
Often people use these words the way they want and not by definition. Misuse of these words creates confusion.
The most important thing for any artist or craftsman is gainful employment. Good artists are employed in prospering economies. Your creations are original or unique and the price will be high. People with disposable income do not buy essential works of art.
The artisan plays art and utility-style work year-round, regardless of the economy. People need houses, clothes, shoes, tools, vehicles, furniture and more than original jewelry, a statue or an oil painting.
Artists and craftsmen must be entrepreneurs and act alone or under contract as entrepreneurs. Artisans or merchants work in large companies for wages.
