Bruce Willis stars in a "Die Hard" car battery commercial
Twitter started buzzing Sunday when a sneak peek of Bruce Willis as "Die Hard" star John McClane emerged from multiple reports, including Willis' daughter Rumer Willis, NFL reporter Erin Andrews, and the comedy group. The Lonely Island. Everyone tweeted the clip using the hashtags #DieHardIsBack and #Ad, joking that something big was going to happen between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers during the NFL game.
In the 15-second clip, Willis hisses like McClane as he walks towards a group of menacing-looking people waiting for him. He opens his jacket and begins to take it off when it turns black. An interlaced video sequence contains the following message: "When one story ends, another begins." Many fans on Twitter have postulated that a sixth "Die Hard" movie is on the horizon, but unfortunately not.
It turns out that the franchise only advertises DieHard-branded car batteries. In the two-minute ad, Willis reverts to McClane's character and begins a dangerous mission to get a new battery for his dead car. He jumps out the window of an Advance Auto Parts store, where batteries can be purchased, and has to fight his way through an opening and dodge numerous bullets to restart his car.
Of course, the clip featured some Easter eggs from the franchise, including an appearance by McClane Argyle's limo driver and a scene where McClane hits an enemy on his head with his own brand of car batteries. The ad ends with Argyle saying "Yippee ki yay" to which McClane responds, "Hey, that's my line!"
