Tidwell began moving at eight years old in an after-school program for in danger youth. Nearby move teacher Vicky Cooke paid heed to the "tad of a child in a straddle, attempting to arrive at his fingers to his toes", and after the program shut, Cooke referenced the kid to Denise Divider. The two ladies chose to acknowledge him to their studio, Denise Divider's Move Vitality, for nothing. Throughout the following couple of years, Divider took an individual enthusiasm for Tidwell, and when he was ten, he was calling Divider "Mother" and her different children (Scotty, Travis, Tyler, and Shannon) his siblings. She discovered that the kid would regularly walk part or the entirety of the ten miles (16 km) home after move class, had minimal grown-up supervision outside of the studio, and, at a certain point, had not been enrolled in school for a considerable length of time. He lived with his organic mother and two sisters until he was ten, preceding moving in with Divider; she formally took authority of Tidwell when he was twelve years of age.

Remarking on his initial days in preparing, he stated, "I despised artful dance and would skirt each opportunity I got." Progressively intrigued by jazz as a kid, the flips, turns, and chance for articulation spoke to him. In any case, his genuine inspiration was a rivalry, which would set him up for his future undertakings beyond what he could have known at that point. "I was an opposition kid. We used to do rivalries each other end of the week," he revealed to Move Magazine.
In his initial adolescents, Tidwell met a few exceptional youthful artists, including his top choice - Rasta Thomas, and it inspired him to make his move to another stature. He set the objective to go to the Kirov Foundation of Artful dance (otherwise called General Artful dance Institute) in Washington, DC and, at fifteen years old, he was welcome to learn at Kirov on the grant. It ended up being up to that time, what he calls, "the best and the most noticeably awful experience" of his life. He started getting significant level old-style artful dance preparing with Vladimir Djouloukhadze and Anatoli Kucheruk, from the outset to improve his jazz move. Nonetheless, he before long found that the trouble of expressive dance was the ideal outlet for his need for a steady test, and exchanged focuses - a poor start by artful dance gauges. While exceeding expectations in the movie, he found nature at Kirov requesting and disengaging. As summer drew nearer, he arranged for and partook in the Shanghai Global Artful dance Rivalry and brought home a silver decoration (no gold was granted that year). Be that as it may, the pressure of Kirov had been excessively, and he quit the school after the opposition.
